Actual Political Alignments

At one point I was trying to understand how we progress to the absolute extremes of politics. I had never really given it any though before so some of this research was enlightening to me. First let me define what I consider the extreme ends of politics. I believe that the polar opposites that we must recognize are on one end Anarchy . The polar opposite of Anarchy is Totalitarianism. One is the absence of government intervention and the other is the government intervention in every aspect of life. The reason I wanted to do this research is that I wanted to make sure I understood the effects of the movement of political power in the US. It is important to first define the terms we will be using. Per Merriam Webster, where there did not seem to fill in enough information about the term other sources were used. Anarchist - a person who believes that government and laws are not necessary. Communism - a way of organizing a society in which the government owns the things that are used to make and transport products (such as land, oil, factories, ships, etc.) and there is no privately owned property Conservative - a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions, and preferring gradual development to abrupt change; specifically : such a philosophy calling for lower taxes, limited government regulation of business and investing, a strong national defense, and individual financial responsibility for personal needs (as retirement income or health-care coverage) Democrat - a member of the Democratic Party of the U.S. Dictatorship - rule, control, or leadership by one person with total power Fascist (Fascism) - a way of organizing a society in which a government ruled by a dictator controls the lives of the people and in which people are not allowed to disagree with the government. Liberal - believing that government should be active in supporting social and political change : relating to or supporting political liberalism Libertarian - a person who believes that people should be allowed to do and say what they want without any interference from the government. a person who upholds the principles of individual liberty especially of thought and action Republican - a person who believes in or supports a republican form of government Social Democrat - a political movement that uses principles of democracy to change a capitalist country to a socialist one Socialism - a way of organizing a society in which major industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies Tea Party - Members of the movement have called for a reduction of the U.S. national debt and federal budget deficit by reducing government spending, and for lower taxes. Totalitarian - the political concept that the citizen should be totally subject to an absolute state authority I took the time based on the definitions to put it together in a line with what the delineations look like.
Let me explain some of the difference placements that I am showing. Below the main line are three different headings, dictatorship, fascism and progressive. Understanding the definition of these different terms is skewed to the left because they each relate to the need for centralized control of the individual. Progressivism can come from either moderate side. The reason I placed Fascism and Dictatorship on the radical left is by definition they are about government control. As you move to the right the level of government intervention gets less and less. I find myself wanting to say that those two extreme can come from either side based on the personality that is involved. I cannot see that a libertarian society would develop a need or an initial acceptance of that type of personality. By definition the radical right wants nothing to do with a strong central government to begin with.
